The PowerSport Institute (PSI) is a branch campus of Ohio Technical College dedicated to providing motorcycle mechanic training in Ohio on a wide array of manufacturers and equipment in the powersport industry. Never before has so much training been combined into one comprehensive program.
At the PowerSport Institute, we are focused on developing motorcycle technicians who are able to make an immediate impact in the workplace. As driveability and maintenance specialists, our graduate technicians will know their way around multiple manufacturers’ equipment, tools, resources and shops.

Hands on Training to become a Motorcycle Technician.
From service counters and computers, to expanded tool bays and equipment, you will perform shop tasks and receive hands-on training in a live service environment – making your training as a motorcycle mechanic unique in the field. In addition, get your Associate degree in PowerSport Technology to enhance your motorcycle education like nothing else.We offer 2 distinct program options:
The PowerSport Technology program cover all the metric bikes including: Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha as well as off-road equipment including ATVs, personal watercraft and snowmobiles.
In our American V-Twin Specialist program, you will learn the specifics of working on v-twin engines from Harley-Davidson and Polaris/Victory and then move into our Custom Bike Building and Fabrication program. Here you will build bikes from the ground up using S&S engines, Baker drive trains and more to prepare you to become a complete custom motorcycle technician.
All programs are also available with the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree. This program is designed for students that wish to pursue a career in the motorcycle repair industry along with the academic background needed to succeed in business and management.
Motorcycle Training - American V-Twin Program
Train to become an American V-Twin Technician: The American V-Twin program provides our students with a detailed overview of the major American V-Twin manufacturers; Victory, S&S Cycle and Harley-Davidson. In addition, students are able to achieve their Associate of Applied Science degree giving them academic background needed to succeed in business and management.
The American V-Twin program provides students with learning experiences which will enable them to learn industry job functions and attain service, maintenance and diagnostic skills on the American V-Twin motorcycle.
In this course, students focus on Harley-Davidson and Victory fuel system technology and gain a solid understanding of motorcycle engine management systems, fuel injection software operation information and diagnosis procedures.
During this course, you will not only receive a detailed overview of each manufacturer's model specific components, you will be trained on:
- V-Twin engine technology
- Chassis service and repair
- Top & bottom end servicing
- Primary and secondary drive functionality
- Starting, charging and ignition systems
- Troubleshooting and diagnostic techniques
- Dyno tuning and testing
You will also be covering fuel system operations and troubleshooting for carburetors and electronic fuel injection as well as operations of multiple fuel management systems including: DynoJet Power Commander, Daytona TwinTec, and S&S Cycle's VFI System.
This program challenges our students with a custom bike build project. In our Custom Bike Building/ Performance Component, you can incorporate your creativity and innovation in design while focusing on performance drivability, functionality and safety initiatives while also giving you practical experience in motorcycle assembly. This unique program offers the opportunity to combine technical instruction with design elements such as:
- Assembly of Chassis and Components
- Metal fabrication
- Paint and Custom Painting Techniques
- Rebuilding wiring harnesses
- Customizing components

Degree Program - Associate of Applied Science - Motorcycle Training
This dynamic program is designed for those students who are looking to pursue a career in the PowerSport industry along with the academic background needed to succeed in business and management. The Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree program covers core information on:

Following the fundamental core PowerSport training, students will then move into specific training on major motorcycle and PowerSport manufacturers including Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki and others. In addition, students will learn maintenance on personal watercraft, ATV's and snowmobiles from a variety of manufacturers – making you truly a technician for all seasons!
